Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

It was a good experience, the location is great, I couldnt ask for a better spot on the map, the park next to the hostel is beautiful.

Bathroom(shower) had a lot of products on the ground, 4 bed room was small, not a lot of chill spots inside the hostel, only one ping pong table for entertainment

Private pods area was quiet and showers were lovely

In my pods the aircon wouldn’t shut off, didn’t cause much on an issue. But with the added cold from the weather could have done without it.

bed and bathroom was clean, staff was very friendly. breakfast cheap, if booked one day in advance. the hostel is not in the city center itself but I really liked the area around it and the park. and there are several stations close by.

the 6-bed-rooms are a bit narrow if everyone gets up at the same time and when you need to open the drawers under the beds. bring a lock to be able to lock your box. floor was a bit sandy but all in all the rest was quite clean. they could wipe the tables in the cafe more often, especially during breakfast.

I like how they used the space. Breakfast was good but not much for vegans.

The room was basic and OK, if a little dusty. I've stayed in hundreds of hostels and I would say it was quite expensive. I did appreciate the towels though. For the amount of time I spent there I should have booked a mixed dorm.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was good enough. Not too far from city center walking.

The pillow was extremely uncomfortable . I didn’t have the best sleep. Also the restaurant didn’t have much variety of food. ..but over all it was a decent stay.

Great building.. lots going on. We took a room with 4 bunks which worked well for our family. 2 x adults and 16/14 boys.

It’s a good location but still a bit of a walk into central. We loved the walk but others may find it long.

I’ve stayed a few times in the deluxe dorms; comfy beds, easy access to the museums. Trams to Leidseplein en Museumplein take 10 minutes (+5 mins walk to tram stop) from generator. Set in a tranquil park.

Can’t walk downtown from generator; you must jump on the tram, metro, or bike.

The sink at the room should be in the shower or in the toilet cuz in the room area is to annoying, at night time or anytime let's say that someone sleeps and someone else or many of them before sleep they was using the sink to brush them teeth etc was to noisy to me and I believe to anyone else who sleeps. I have stayed in many hostels around the world (cuz I'm travelling a lot) but it's the first time for me to see a sink placed at the room area. I also tried the dinner, I ordered the beef steak which was good and tasty but the fries was cold then I ordered pasta of the day which was spaghetti Bolognese as they told me but I received spaghetti with meatballs instead however I eat them both and I didn't say anything (usually I do) cuz I was really tired and I wanted to sleep after my dinner. PS meatballs wasn't good, I had pain in stomach after that. 2nd PS I'm working in hospitality for 15 years so I know what is good or not as everyone else I believe.

This place has great potential as a hostel although it seems to be more focused on the money than on building a community around the business. Breakfast was great and I really enjoyed having morning walk through the park afterwards. Bar staff very friendly.

Lack of any sense of hostel as a social space although the building, as ex university building, brings many communal spaces. In turns that in 3 days I made no contacts with other guests, and from my experience that is very unusual. Despite hostel staff was always available to accommodating my requests, it felt like they were doing 'just their bit'' like a hotel would. Unfortunately I couldn't see any manager around, so maybe that way of working was not ideal and results were fair but not great as they could have. Plus that was not my expectation from a hostel. So, I left a bit confused on the service I was provided.

The staff, the food, and the facilities. It is a very good place for solo traveling, with a beautiful park next to it. Also, the coffe is very good too.

I slept in a capsule bed. The mattress was SO uncomfortable that my back hurt a little after the first night. and also the ventilation insight of those is not very good, you cant change the temperature of the space either.

It was near to down twon ' not near no fer to twon!!!

The property is in the main city neat and clean. Security system is also very good.

The wardrobe should be replaced with new one as these boxes are very old fashioned. There is no glass and jug to fill up the water.

Friendly staff, dog friendly l, straightforwardness. It is good value for money.

Our key cards didn’t work at some doors, like the one access from the stairs to the corridor and the one from the lift to the corridor, which was a bit inconvenient.

Beds and storage are fine Shower and toilets are okay

Hoven at 1 pm from the kitchen (I was sleeping in room 22) + cleaning staff coming by at 9 am. There isn't any shelf in the shower to put our stuff while showering + Toilets are not soundproof.

i had a 4 person dorm, and it was a little bit too small. there was big drawers to put you bags under the bottom beds, but the space between the bunkbeds so narrow I could barely open the drawers and only one person could stand there at a time. there was also no supermarket close by, and the snacks at the hostel was expensive.

Access

The room was comfortable, had a storage space for which you'd take your own lock and the shower and toilet were clean and comfortable. The hostel was in a nice location, it was safe to park your bike outside.

The central area was loud and a bit chaotic in my experience, but most hostel-goers will probably find this a good thing - I was tired from long distance cycling, so would have preferred silence. The shower was spacious, but could use a small table or more hooks to ensure keeping your clothes dry. The locker was loud to open, both when moving it under or from under the bed, and when opening the latch. It would be good if the wheels get some spray regularly and if the box is padded with some felt tape to catch the latch where it hits.

The location is far far away from the center. The fact that everything costs extra, even luggage room which is total bs. The receptionist who worked at night didn't speak english well.
