Foundation Hotel, Detroit

The hotel is in an easily accessible location in downtown Detroit. The building is fantastic, but it's from an earlier era. The redo is attractive, but it is somewhat industrial. The beds and bathrooms were glorious. The deepest sleep I have had in months... Air-con/ventilation was superb -- ran on the cool side, which we liked. Nice arm chair and chaise. In and out valet, which we didn't use, but helpful. Very nice double window shades -- blackout and transparent shade screen, on pullers. The shower was delicious with various toiletries (wash, cream, shampoo, conditioner) -- fragrant soap.

Lighting in the rooms is a bit weird. No light at the desk, yet bright lights at the entrance and in various corners. One small desk and small chair -- not the best for those needing to do work. The windows are not entirely soundproof. Though we generally had quiet, there was a 5 am garbage collection that was quite noisy -- and we were in the back on an alley! The hotel restaurant is spacious with unique furnishings, but breakfast was semi-take-out, with limited menu, with some items failing. Service was great. We did not eat dinner there, but we noted a good crowd on a weeknight the evening we arrived. We didn't fully realize that the one night reservation we had was fully pre-pay, but that's our bad.

I love a good historic hotel, and this one definitely fits the bill! They've left a lot of the old fire station character, but have updated it into a really comfortable hotel. It's in a good location in downtown Detroit, and the rooms are large and comfortable. We also loved the Apparatus Room for dinner and drinks!

If you're like us and don't live in a city, you might want to bring some earplugs to drown out the nighttime street noise (mostly loud engines and the occasional siren).

It was not the closest to where we wanted to hangout.

The lounge is spectacular, it kept the original tiles of the former fire station as well as the doors for the trucks to go in and out. The bedroom was pretty and very well equipped, decent size but the furniture and outlets makes it a very comfortable room.

The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday (due to covid) which is not properly informed. At this price range not having a restaurant on site makes it hard to recommend for those days.

Would love electric car charging in on-site parking.

We love this beautiful hotel in the middle of Detroit. So thankful to get away after Covid 2020-21. So happy that Detroit seems to be coming back to life and will continue to recover. We will stay again and again!

The staff and the service was exceptional, the in room amenities were over the top in quality. I enjoyed the location which was right downtown within walking distance of the waterfront. They were very accomodating to me as I was an out of town traveler.

I wish they would have had valet parking, and maybe more carpet in the rooms as the concrete floor was interesting. Also, my view was to a parking lot so that was a waste of money.

It was beautiful! The rooms were very nice and the dining/bar area was beautifully decorated (and the food was amazing too). Loved that I could log in to my Netflix account on the TV! The staff were also very accommodating to us with our dogs. (Yay Pet Friendly!)

This is me being nit-picky: The breakfast could have been better, and the coffee was alright (I expected better from such a nice place). The hallways were a little plain, but still clean.

We like the whole boutique hotel and restaurant.

Beautiful building and the Apparatus Room, size of the rooms, and equipment were all good. A very nice style.

Unfortunately, the fridge in the room was very loud and bright (perhaps my perception), and also the noises from the outside nightlife (perhaps sound isolations could be better) made it difficult to fall asleep for me. Also, I think some bigger people (weight) can have difficulties getting into the shower due to the way the door opens inside, however, I do not know if this is the case for all rooms.

clean, stylish rooms in central location

they seriously need to work on their customer service. I ordered a cookie from room service, and after 2 hours it had not shown up. no communication from the hotel. I went to bed. next thing I know, my cookie ($14) is being delivered to me, complete with multiple knocks on the door and a telephone call to my room. I was exhausted from a multi-state business trip and just wanted to sleep, and could barely find clothes in which to answer the door. person delivering cookie just stood there awkwardly. do you still want the cookie? I had no idea a cookie would take hours to appear, in which case I would not have ordered. one of the most bizarre and confounding experiences I’ve had in a hotel ever.

stayed here once before and loved the room and bar.

we were not told there would be zero access to the dining and bar because it was closed for a private party from 11am-midnight.

Website showed a pool table and then when we got there it turned out it was in a private room.

The staff was not supportive, waiting time in restaurant for breakfast over 30 mins. Then for the check another 30 mins.

Trendy but not luxurious. Would have appreciated in room coffee maker, ice bucket, complimentary water, robes for the price.

the architecture, old character as well as the memoirs from the previous fire department. really made this place stand out. staff was so very kind, best experience I’ve had in a hotel.
