New York Times review:

“Situated near Diamond Head and Kapiolani Park, on the shores of Kaimana Beach. It was opened in the late 1940s on property that once belonged to the McInerny family of traders. In 1964, it changed hands and underwent major renovations, reopening with 156 rooms over nine stories.”

Exceptional

It is the ONLY place we stay in Honolulu. We love the boutique feeling, the local and quiet neighborhood and the location is perfect.

The rooms are small but the views are great

Staff was helpful. The nice rooms are amazing. Pay the extra money and get the better room.

It is right on the water. It has resident sea lions

There are two areas to the hotel. One is amazing, one is old and desperately needs renovation. Be sure you book with ocean view and you will enjoy.

Ideal location for beach, hiking, parks, and all the other activities

Great location. The beach and parks are right outside the hotel. Nice hike to Diamond Head State Park. It is a great location because it is away from the hustle and bustle but a quick 10 minute walk if that's what you want. The hotel offers beach chairs and umbrellas. Bikes are available and included.

Make sure you understand if your reservation is for the tower or if you are in the parking lot annex.

Great location, kind and prompt staff, lack of in-room amenities

We liked that the property is located away from the center of hustle and bustle in Waikiki. The beach is never crowded. The view of the ocean, city, and the mountain from our wraparound balcony was perfect. We were worried about other reviews that mentioned lack of beach chairs, umbrellas, towels to borrow from the hotel, but there were plenty.

There was a strong musty smell in the room right off the bat. There was no fridge in the room, so it was difficult to keep any leftovers. I know it’s an option that can be requested, but for the price we paid I expected standard amenities to be in the room already.

I'd recommend to friends, and would go back.

Location was great. Room was good. Beach was not accessible. There were seals on it. I was a bit disappointed, but reminded that this is a very special occasion. It's not often that seals are on the beach :)

On arrival there was a guest card with someone elses name. A bottle of bubbles, which I took back to the staff. I couldn't find the stairs to walk up to my room and had to take elevator.

My stay at Kaimana felt like a dream.

I felt the hotel was in a wonderful location; it was close to many amenities but not surrounded by Waikiki city bustle. The rooms overlooking the ocean were gorgeous. The private beach was enjoyable; they have a resident monk seal love to lay on the sand.

There was a little confusion between the booking.com itinerary details and the hotel reception desk. However, the confusion cleared up with the attentive staff.

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay and enjoyed the ambience of the hotel.

The location, the decor, away from the noise and busyness of downtown. Great staff, very helpful and happy.

Would have liked to see more selection on menu in restaurant.

Very good

Great location of the hotel. Very friendly staff. Free parking space available on the street if you are lucky Perfect Hotel to stay and travel the island. Close to Waikiki beach. Nice beach right in front of the hotel.

The restaurant in the hotel is rather expensive and has only limited seatings and a limited selection of Menues. The bed is comfortable, but very soft. So I got back pain pretty soon. Parking is expensive.

We didn’t want to leave, it was such a lovely place.

Kaimana Beach Hotel is a lovely property right on the beach, it’s in a great location which is a short walk from the hustle and bustle. The rooms are nice with lots of amenities available and we loved watching the sunsets from our balcony.

The room was just a little on the small side.

Awesome stay. Would definitely come back!

Amazing beach and awesome service. I would definitely come back here!

The room was pretty small, a little shabby and not quite like the pictures. It seems like the lobby, restaurant, etc. got a remodel but the rooms didn't. We didn't mind as we were barely in the room, but just beware when booking!

Great location, friendly staff, furniture needs updating.

Location, staff, restaurant.

We stayed in the annex and unfortunately the lounge (sofa bed) was unbearable to sit on - cushions had to be re-set every few minutes. Also the mattress was completely sagged on on side and needs to be replaced urgently.

Very good

Hotel location is somewhat separate from the main waikiki concrete jungle, and is backed by a park. Location is top. Bar also great, had a nice brunch there at a reasonable price.

Our room was facing the parking lot. Wtf.

Wonderful place to recover from jet lag, clean, friendly, calm.

Very well run, smaller hotel on the quiet end of Waikiki beach. The staff was exceptional.

The bar was extremely overpriced.

Honeymooners had a beautiful time ❤️

We were on our honeymoon and the staff was super nice and friendly. They made it such a beautiful time. Chad checked us in and made us feel welcomed. Just overall an amazing experience!

It wasn’t the hotel’s fault that a monk seal decided to give birth on their beach so it was closed. Otherwise our trip would have been absolutely 100% perfect.

"City View" Does Not Mean A View of Downtown Honolulu

I liked the fact that the staff let us check in early at no extra charge. I liked the location (on the beach but away from the noise and crowds of the main tourist area). It is possible to walk to the main tourist area, as well as the aquarium and zoo. The onsite restaurant is very good (though a little pricey). Note that the restaurant is very popular, so guests should make brunch and/or dinner reservations days (perhaps weeks) ahead of time. If one misses out on a dinner reservation (and has no vehicle), there is food available at the bar until 5 p.m., or one can walk up the road a bit to a beach-side cafe that is open reasonably late. There is a convenience store practically on-site, where one can get things like juice and yogurt, as well as the usual stuff like ice cream and chocolate bars. The hotel and restaurant staff are nice, and this is especially true of the restaurant staff! Our queen bed was reasonably comfortable. (We had stayed at the same hotel in late January/early February, and the bed we had then, a king, was a bit too firm for me.) The shower was excellent with good pressure and steady temperature. The A/C worked well, but I am surprised housekeeping leaves the fan on so high, since it blows right over the bed. It is possible to change the fan and mode of operation on the A/C, though it is not obvious. There is a panel on the remote control that can slide down. Under there are the controls for the fan speed, etc. You will want to use this!

The term "city view" room is very misleading. Back in early 2020, it actually meant a view of the main part of Honolulu and the park beside the hotel (unless the hotel upgraded us then without telling us). Now it does not mean that. In fact, it actually means the opposite. We overlooked a parking lot and the other hotels in the area. Still, because we were put on a high floor, we could see Diamond Head and some of the ocean as well. I did not like the fact that the staff completely ignored my written request to be in a quiet area away from the elevator, and actually put us right opposite the elevator. Since they had let us check in early, I decided not to complain about it. We were tired from a night flight from Sydney, Australia, so used white noise apps to mask any hallway sounds, so we could nap. (The rooms are actually fairly soundproof, especially compared to some other places I've stayed in.) Another thing to note is that standard rooms like those labelled "city view" are very, very small (only around 200 sq. ft.). Even some of the "ocean view" rooms are very small. They are okay for a single person, but if you are a couple and can afford it, I recommend something bigger.

Great stay and excellent value for money.

Property is directly on the beach. Property was in a more quiet spot and still close enough to shops and most tourist attractions. Food was excellent. Had some specialty Italian dishes.

Very good

We got a suite and is big with living a d dinning room. you have access to a beach right in front but no swimming pool.

There was some loud mechanical noises above our bedroom at night and the hotel is quite old, feel like traveled back in 1970s.
